How-To: Erasing Your Openflash Tablet (v1 or v2).

This operation will prepare the OFT for installation on a new vehicle.

Installed means that the OFT has READ a vehicle ECU at some point.

Uninstalled means that the OFT has WRITTEN an ORIGINAL Tune file back to the ECU on which it was installed before.

Reset means that the ORIGINAL data has been ERASED from the OFT using OpenFlash Manager.

How-to know if the OFT is installed on a vehicle, or not.

  • If the READ button is available after you select the TUNING menu, then choose your vehicle = the OFT is NOT installed on any ECU.
  • If the READ button is unavailable after you select the TUNING menu = the OFT has been installed on some ECU.

If you've determined the OFT is NOT erased yet, then do the following:

  • With the OFT plugged into a vehicle navigate MAIN MENU -> TUNING -> WRITE (if the option is available)
    • If the ORIGINAL tune file has a(n) * next to it, the OFT has been uninstalled already.
    • If another tune file as a(n) * next to it, the OFT has NOT been uninstalled.
  • With the OFT plugged into notice if the MY CAR option is available on the MAIN MENU.
    • If it is NOT available for selection (greyed out), the OFT has NOT been installed on any car (no READ operation has been performed).

Uninstalling, and preparing the OFT for installation onto a new car

  1. Use the OFT to write the ORIGINAL tune back to the ECU on which it was originally installed.
    • This operation will WRITE the OEM tune file back to the ECU and will allow the OFT to be erased in Openflash Manager. This operation is what we consider "uninstalling" the OFT from the chassis; but it is still not ready to read/write a new car.
  2. Connect your OFT to OpenFlash Manager and use the software to ERASE the OFT to prepare it for installation onto a new vehicle.

NOTES

  • You cannot ERASE an OFT that was never installed to a(n) ECU, or has already been erased. Openflash Manager will report "This device has never been used".
  • You cannot ERASE an OFT that has not written the ORIGINAL tune file back to the ECU on which it has been installed.
  • To prepare the OFT to read/write a new car, it must to be erased. Erasing the OFT will 'reset' it back to a factory/new state. This will allow it to perform a new read operation that saves OEM ECU info from your/another car as needed.
